Below you will find answers to the most common questions we receive from EconX students.
What should I use as my account ID? What is a course admit code? How is that different from the code in my textbook? Your account ID and password are used to verify your identify each time you return to EconX. You may choose your own account ID. (Many students prefer to use their email address as their account ID, as it is easy to remember.) However, do not use your course admit code (provided by your instructor) as your account ID. After you have created your account, you will be asked to enter the course admit code provided by your instructor. The course admit code ensures that you are registered for the appropriate course. If you have not received a course admit code, please contact your instructor. Finally, you be asked to remit payment. The cost of the course is $15.00, payable by debit or credit card. I cannot remember my account ID or password! If you have forgotten your account information please visit the website below. You will be asked to enter your last name and email address. This information will be used to locate your account. Once your account has been located, you will receive an email containing your account ID as well as instructions for selecting a new password. How do I configure my computer for EconX? To ensure that your computer is compatible with EconX, please visit the website below: Test and Configure Your System It is strongly recommended that you access EconX from a PC running Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer. Your computer will also need to have Java installed, which is available for download at http://www.java.com/. The graph does not display, instead all I see is a gray box. What should I do? It is likely that your computer either does not have Java installed or is using an outdated version. We have found that installing the newest version of Java solves this problem for most users. Java can be downloaded from http://www.java.com/. Press the ‘Get It Now’ button and follow the instructions on your screen. I have followed the instructions above, but the graph still does not work. Try working from a different computer or in a computer cluster. You may also contact us at oli-help@lists.andrew.cmu.edu for further assistance. When I save my graph, my answers are cleared. I receive an error message when saving my graph. Your computer is not properly configured for EconX. You should test and configure your system using the website below: Test and Configure Your System If the problem persists, please contact us at oli-help@lists.andrew.cmu.edu for assistance. Are the ‘Learn By Doing’ problem graded? Will my instructor see my answers? The Learn By Doing links within the Supply and Demand workbook provide you with additional instruction and a safe space for practice. Your responses will not be graded or seen by your instructor. You may return to these exercises at anytime for extra practice; your answers are not saved. I have finished my workbook. What do I do now? How will I receive my grade? While working on the workbooks, be sure to save your answers by pressing the button at the bottom of the page. When finished, check your work carefully. You may continue working (and change your responses, if necessary) up until the due listed on your syllabus. If you are satisfied with your answers, there is nothing else to do. After the due date has passed, your responses will be automatically graded and feedback will be provided. To view your current scores click the ‘My Scores’ link. I am trying to participate in an experiment, but I am told that the market is closed to new participants. What does this mean? This message indicates that you did not register for your EconX course before the experiment started. In order to participate in an EconX experiment, you must have registered for the course before the experiment is scheduled to begin. You should contact your instructor and inquire about an alternate assignment. Please note, if you did not register in time to participate in the Supply and Demand experiment, you will still be able to complete the Supply and Demand workbook. You will also be allowed to participate in all subsequent experiments. When I try to join an experiment, I am told that there are too few participants. What does this mean? Each of the EconX experiments requires a minimum number of students. This message means that there are too few students in your course for the experiment to be offered. Please ask your instructor to contact us at oli-help@lists.andrew.cmu.edu. | |
